Let’s reject division and unite for the American People
As we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. tomorrow, let’s reflect on the words of this remarkable man and his vision for America.
In Dr. King’s August 28, 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech on the Lincoln Memorial, he closes with these powerful words:
Let freedom ring. And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring — when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children — black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics — will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”
Dr. King’s dream of freedom was for Americans to be united, unshackled by the constraints of wanton racism and inequality. Dr. King’s fight to create a unified nation where all men and women are treated equally was later realized. For some, it was sooner than others, yet it was the sacrificial work of Dr. King and thousands of others that compelled Civil Rights denying politicians to address the ills of their state and local governments. These politicians were the core of our Country’s division, and the American people had enough.
Today, we again find our Country split. Not by something as obvious or evil as segregation, yet something just as divisive.
Washington, DC Democrats have, and continue to use, the weapon of identity politics to create distrust, envy, and hate amongst the American people. They fan the flames by elevating one group’s needs over another while pointing to others and labeling them as evil. This cynical and dangerous form of politics creates disdain for fellow Americans allowing Democratic Politicians to prey on those that believe others are marginalizing them. This has produced an America where law enforcement is under attack, freedom of expression is derided, and history is being rewritten to vilify heroes like Abraham Lincoln.
In a 2020 Cato National Survey, 50% of Strong Liberals felt that Trump Donors should be fired from their job. While 45% of Democrats in a 2019 Pew Research Poll said, they would be unhappy if their child married a Republican. This further indicates the intolerance of leftist Democrats and their contempt for those that disagree with them.
Now is the time to start healing our nation’s wounds. We must reject the politics of personal destruction and unite our Country around the ideals of freedom, respect for all Americans, and individual empowerment.
It is time to honor Dr. King’s dream, join hands and work together for what is best for our Country, not for Washington, DC politicians. If you have had enough, I hope you will join me in the coming months as we seek fundamental change and take Congress back for the American people.
